Service Description

I’ve spent the whole of my life becoming the person I am today; was it worth it? There is only one person who is with you the whole of your life, and every minute of that life, and that is you. How you view, judge, and treat yourself is fundamental to the quality of your existence. How do we assess if we are worthy, or do we consider that we are worth less than others? Are we loveable and deserving? Where do we learn about how this all works? Has it been implied that I’m only loveable if I’m successful, clever, attractive, useful? What messages have I received about what I have to do to be loveable? Topics that will be covered will include: • Where we get our sense of self from • Factors which affect how we develop self-esteem • Shame and how to address it in the therapy room • Our internal assessment versus the ideas that come from outside us and the interplay of these. • How our ideas about who we are structure our internal world and dialogue • Connections with ourselves and others and how meaningful contact can start a process of healing Jon Wilson Cooper is a Gestalt Psychotherapist, Trainer and Supervisor and Director of The Albany Centre in St Albans.
